The two officers were very proud that they managed to catch the bird into their back seat. I picked her up and named her Sarah Survivor. She is the brownish red hen on the left in the photo. Sarah has made herself at home, laying her eggs in the hay rack and running through the yard. Her best friend is the white hen on the right who manages to escape the coop daily. The two of them always appeared at strange times; however we have recently cut off escape routes and they stay put in the coop.
Chicago hosts a variety of chicken owners, and occasionally we receive 'street' chickens to our coop. Sometimes neighbors ask us to pick them up, or report loose hens on the street. In mid October, a police car promptly pulled up to our garage/barn/chicken coop with yet another gift from the street.
