GlennArt Farm provides fresh un-pasturized goat milk to the public in Chicago. We are the only source raw milk in the city. Our size is extremely small in that we produce about 14 gallons of milk per week from April till November. During the winter we have a smaller production of about four gallons per week. Our winter milker, Martha, will return January 25. Milk will be available January 26.
JARS: As you can see in the photo we sell our milk in sanitized mason jars, which incurs a cost to us of $1.00 per jar. If the customer wishes to bring a quart, half gallon or full gallon jar, we will fill that container. Otherwise we charge for the jar, which we fill at the time of purchase. Return customers bring back jars and are charged a lower rate. Also customers who join the Goat Guardian Guild, receive deeper discounted benefits. Customers pay with jar included: One Quart $5.00 1/2 Gallon $10.00 A Gallon $20.00 Guild Members pay: One Quart $3.50 1/2 Gallon $7.00 A Gallon $14.00 For more information about joining the guild please review: http://www.glennartfarm.com/work-with-goats.html As we come up for air this September, we count five projects completed this year. The need for more pasture space has been a chronic problem in the city. For two years, GlennArt goats have suffered the lack of pastures. Goats need more than one acre on which to rotate grazing. While we are grateful for our showcase pasture at 450 Waller, our animals have needed more places to graze. Too much time on grazing area causes the animals to develop parasites and cause more flies for our neighbors.
Several families have blessed us with the use of their land space. We would like to acknowledge the Llapa family, Maria and her son Fausto; Alba Pillacella and her sister Amanda Morocho; and the Mock family, J'aime and Debbie. We received permission to enter spaces behind houses that were for one reason or another were abandoned, and to enter empty lots that afforded us space to graze our animals safely. We are very grateful for the neighbors who have received the animals with kindness. I dropped the gate keys, which I borrowed from Maria Llapa, on the ground one night as we picked up the goats. The next morning after frantic searches at home, I finally knocked on the nearby door to the lot on Long Street. The neighbor came out with the keys in his hand. "We got your back," he said. |
