Our most difficult predators in the city are squirrels. This year we are experimenting with placing small, red, fine-mesh bags on the hazelnuts as they appear to discourage these furry marauders. I already found one one red bag on the street. Volunteers have been quite kind to tie the little bags over the budding filberts.

![]() Honey season at GlennArt Farm had a difficult start. The first of June I could not find a queen in any of the four hives. It was very discouraging, so I left them alone to sort out any natural recovery efforts. This week, I had wonderful help from Amber and Clay who volunteer with the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. We formed a wagon train of equipment and bee boxes (or supers). Joy of joys, we found two queens in the current hives. Both WWOOFer volunteers were thrilled to see a queen laying eggs in the hive. We returned with hope for honey this year. I could not take a photo of the queen, however you can see a sample photo here of a queen laying eggs. ![]() CHERRY SEASON IS SOOO FUN!! ... even when you have to pit the cherries for cherry jam. We were able to harvest several buckets of cherries even with a bit of infested fruit. Willow Black and her mom, Jessica, had a blast as her family picked the last of the fruit. Spivey and Mia pitted not once but twice for jam and pie here at the farm. What fun to share food!
