2026

After returning home to Chicago in 2024, we returned  from our wild and delightful trip to a farm reduced and changed.  Our lives continue to serve the West Side of Chicago and recently to serve our elders. Mom at 93 receives caregivers at home and struggles with the complications of lymphoma and age. We travel now by train, with our precious Sophie in tow to California each year in November.  This came about at the end of the same year we returned home from our bike trip.   In November 2024 Carolyn's family struggled with the sudden spiral of health in Carolyn's Mom.This continued through February 16 2025  Praise God we still have her in our lives and she still has her personality and right mind.
The experience brought Carolyn , David and her two brothers into an agreement of caregiving for their mother and focused support of Carolyn's younger brother who lives and works at home with Mom.  So this year 2026 brings the second year of  the new normal.
In these chaotic times, we work hard for our community, providing food, and resources in partnership with a myriad of organizations and churches dedicated to homeless and hunger prevention.  God has sent us friends and neighbors who have needs.  We support as we are able.
Along these lines we also need to LEAVE Chicago for prayer and renewal.  Both David and Carolyn have taken time to rest from our goats and our service.  David is attending a Men's retreat, Carolyn returns to her mom in the Spring and Fall to support her brother for short spells.  Lastly as a couple we will be BIKING to a retreat center for two nights of quiet.
So for the first time in two years, I MIGHT have the energy to document our 40 mile bike ride to a retreat center, and back.  We are taking Sophie, of course, but with a different bike transport.  I am more tired these days, and David is the stronger biker.  We will try to strap her into a Bob trailer.  This will be interesting,
